Which Laptop etc?

Hi all,
I have a perfectly good mini tower system at home. This has copies of thousands of digital and scanned photos, which I have also backed up onto DVD discs. My problem is that when I need to show others (with no computer) these photos I have no means of doing so, other than physically bringing them home. It would be useful to be able to word process on the move also. Is the only solution a cheap laptop or has anyone any other ideas?

I would have thought most people have a standalone dvd player nowadays.
Are you actually saying the discs will not play on a standalone dvd player.

You could create a slideshow on the discs etc.

Perhaps I should have explained a bit more... The files are simply saved as Jpegs onto DVD discs. I have created a few DVD slide shows which play on a normal DVD player, but it would need far too many discs to save all the files this way.
Thanks for replying.
