which hard drive

I need more storage on my pc. The current HDD is a Maxtor 2F030J0 (30GB 5400RPM Ultra ATA/133)There are also 2 optical drives in the case (desktop). Which Type of new HDD would be suitable? The pc has usb 1 and I would like usb 2 The motherboard is a PC Chips M810LR with chipset sis 730s, would the motherboard/chipset support usb 2

Your machine sounds as though its a bit long in the tooth. It may be better to get an external usb drive for your extra storage in case you have a catastrophic failure. You could also use Acronis TI or Norton Ghost so you then have a complete backup.

If you have a spare PCI slot you can buy a USB2 card, but it will depend upon your operating system wheather you can run USB2. 98SE upwards I think. As for you hard drive, I would think you could go to 120GB 7200rpm ata 133 without any problems. See what others think

Make sure you can get drivers for the ext HD if your OS is 98se, ME.
