Which graphics card for MSI RD480 Neo2 MOBO?

  Danoh 21:02 24 Jan 09

3 yr old (Jan'06) desktop running XP/Media started to have no screen display from boot-up.
Very occasionally, a screen display will be available right from Bios screens but during use, the display will blank out.

Which is why I suspect that the Sapphire Radeon X800 GTO (ATI) 256Mb, graphics card has given up the ghost.

It's installed in an MSI RD480 Neo2 motherboard.

Would anyone kindly recommend a replacement graphics card? No strict budget, no PC gaming.

Not essential but would be ideal if HiDefinition TV output capability is covered as a suitable upgrade.
Otherwise, just getting a working system again would be sufficient.

Many thanks in anticipation for anyone willing to take the time and trouble to read, think of solutions, and then even more time to type a response!!

It depends on whether your board can take a PCI Express card. If AGP only then I doubt it.

Thx for responding rickf.
It has 2x PCI and 2x(master-slave) PCI Express card slots.

XFX GeForce 8400 GT £ 30.95 (£37.70) HDCP
As it does not need a powerful PSU (I think mine is just 300w)?

XFX GeForce 8500 GT £ 50.78 (£ 54.83)

XFX GeForce 8600 GT £ 61.45 (£ 66.95) HDCP

XFX GeForce 9400 GT £ 65.72 (£ ) HDCP

There are just so many I'm not at all sure which to get - the pc isn't working which is a real pain.

Many specifications which say HD TV output does not confirm that the signal is HDCP compliant though.

Also, the machine runs Windows® Media Center Edition 2005 (not XP although it is an XP Pro kernel, of course)

Any and all suggestions gratefully received.
