Which discs now for x4 burner?

I Have a Sony desktop with seperate DvD Rom and x4 DvD Writer, the writer would appear obsolete due to the lack of availability of blank media at this speed. My question is can I use media with stated burn speed of say 1-x8 for reliable operation. I have always used Verbatim and Infiniti for error free playback (I hate coasters) but I am running out.The last thing I want is to replace the drive. Thanks

I don't think it matters what speed media you use as your writer and burning software will set the burn speed. I would assume your if your writer has a max speed of 4x then that's the max it will burn at. I am assuming there is no firmware update for your writer to allow higher burn speeds

You can use faster speed discs, it will only write as fast as the writer lets it. But you need to know if its DVDR- or DVDR+ that should be used
