Where's me hard drive gorn?

  chrishillcoat 20:52 19 Nov 03

Hi all,

I have a 20GB hard drive... ATA33 so nothing spectacular. However, I've totted up the contents of the C: drive (including hidden folders) and it comes to 16.5GB full - but apparently it's 19GB full! (OK, so it's a 19.7GB drive in total.)

Where's the rest gone?

Thanks! :-)

file slack.

Right-click on any folder in Windows Explorer and view the folder properties. You will see two figures for the space use: Size, and Size on Disk.

The disparity is due to the sector size, which may be 8 Kbytes, so even a 1 byte file will take 8 Kbytes. A 8193 byte file will take 16 Kbytes if my maths is correct.

OK. Thought I might have been missing some stuff ;-)

Thanks both.
