I am only 16 year old (17 in June) and ill be completely honest I did not do to well in school :( but I am amazing at designing games and Enjoy spending time on the computer. I have tried using C+ and C++ but found it rather difficult. I would really enjoy learning these topics at college etc. Does anyone here suggest anything? I also like web Design using HTML & Java(script). Though to me the top two i would really like to do. As you may have guesses i live in the UK, (North East). Does anybody else here study Game Design etc?

Many Thanks

I know a couple of games designers in Stirling, and if you want to study this there are two universities you should really target above all others, but getting onto the course is not easy and competition for places is high.

Learning any programming language is a little bit daunting, but if you go to the best helpfile in the world click here and type in the following search fields, including the quote marks you should get up and running in short order:

"C++"+"tutorial"

"game"+"programming"

"games"+"programming"

"Java"+"tutorial"

"Visual Basic"+"tutorial"

Web design is something else entirely and without wanting to dampen your obvious enthusiasm the market is fast becoming saturated. You need a very broad skill base and preferably a specialisation in a currently in demand area to stand any chance at all. Good Java programmers, for example, are in demand, but note that Java and JavaScript are two different beasts.

Many colleges are offering programming courses either part or full time in most mainstreamm languages, and they are also doing foundation degrees over two years which include work placement and the option to complete the degree with a third and final year. Foundation degrees are a useful stepping stone in many respects, and you can follow subjects like e-commerce which obviously is currently very much in demand. Some of the introductory courses are either free or available at a very small charge.

If you need any specific info, post again.

Best of luck with whatever you choose to follow.

Regards

Taran
