What's a JumpListCache?

Idly scrolling through Windows7 and I came across a large list entitled JumpListCache. I tried Googling it but I am still none the wiser, there are articles on how to repair it or clean it but I want to know what it does.

Am I using it without knowing and should it be cleared out regularly, I've tried opening a file but it just goes to Windows Photo Viewer showing a tiny logo.

I think it's new name for MRU (most recently used) as it was called in XP.

It's like your History Cache/most recently viewed, in your browser.

The JumpListCache is presumably where W7 remembers/makes a note of, what you have used/pinned etc to your JumpList so that it can display them. It also has more features than the old MRU.
