Whats the indicator light mean on Lan/Erthernet

Port rear of Asus Motherboards, Ok unable to get a web page connecting to NTL. The Lan/Ethernet cable plugs into the port on the Rear of the Asus motherboard to the Lan/Erthenet Onboard port.

There is one green flickering light and other is not lit. So does anyone suggest/know what the two little Green lights indicate.

Any suggestions why only one (lower Green Light) is lit.

Is one for Up/Down ?
Box has solid 2 Greens.
Yep and XP.

Grouse ®, I am not using a Router.

The NTL BBand is from a Pace box under TV and cable to rear or PC. which I take it is called Erthenet.

All drivers are correctly installed. SP2 was installed but uninstalled it. to see if that was the problem.

Has been working fine for many months then suddenly light goes of on rear of pc where the NTL cable plugs in.
