Whats the difference between host name and IP add

Hello everyone,

Not a problem but just a general query.

I have always wondered what the difference is between your host name and your IP address?

When I do an IP look up on myself the numbers in both my host name and IP address are identical.

What does this mean and are the numbers that appear in some peoples host name and IP address different?

Does it depend upon your connection type and ISP?

What is the difference between a host name and an IP address?

A host name is used to identify a host by human beings and higher
level user apps. An IP protocol uses only IP addresses to
identify a host in the network. A host-name is provided just as a
convenience for users of the network.
