what's the benefit of video in for a graphics card

  keef66 11:52 27 Jan 06

Graphics card reviews always seem to regard video in as a useful additional feature for a card, but it usually comes at a price. What kind of device would I want to attach to thid port and why? Why not use USB2 or firewire elsewhere on the pc for video in and save the money for a better basic spec of card?

Or am I missing something?

video in is for connecting an external device such as a video cam corder. Saves on buying a tv card.

Or a VCR, to transfer old recordings before donating the player to the Smithsonian.

The above reasons and i guess it makes a card more attractive to a buyer if they have the abilty to capture video from an external source without having to buy another dedicated card for that.
