There is a precedence given to arithmetic operators. Multiply and divide take precedence over add and subtract. So your scientific (so-called) calculator is correctly evaluating what would be better expressed as 1+(2*3)=7

(1+2)*3=9

VoG is right, logically. resistance is futile.

thought so, b.o.d.m.a.s. rule brackets over division, multiplication, addition subtraction

Try getting a calculator that uses REverse Polish Notation (Hewlett Packard used to make them). Then you can't go wrong.

Depends where you put the parenthesis(without VoG is right) with, could go either way.

Would have been better without the with.
