Aldi has an offer at the moment for a 1.3Mpx web-cam, for €19.99 over here. Thought I could use it for the odd occasion when I might want to send an attachment from a magazine/newspaper, but it is probably beyond the range of this cheapie.

Anybody used a web-cam to get readable results from print of newspaper/magazine size? Which model

Hi, surely you would be better off using a Scanner!

It wouldn't be very often, and I don't want a big scanner sitting there and being used just a few times a year. Thinking of a web-cam as I don't have one and they are just so much smaller and have other uses.

Hmm, I have a webcam and use it almost daily, but I have never heard of one being used as you are suggesting. I dare say it can be done, but the print from a newspaper or magazine would probably be unreadable.

You're probably right. Wishful thinking then on my part.

what about just using a digi camera to take a photo then download the image onto your computer for sending?

Dunno if this will work - but I have just taken a pic of a newspaper page using my webcam ...

Hmm, it did work, with a bit more care it could have been a reasonable picture - and able to be read!

So, yes you could go ahead for that webcam.

fitshase's suggestion would also work of course.
