What version of Windows 98?

  ray27 18:22 06 Dec 05

A friend of mine has an old computer running Windows 98
He would like to know what version this is as he wants to upgrade his printer and wants one that is compatible.
I have told him that if he looks in the option Help and clicks on the “about windows “ option it comes up with the windows version but he says he cannot find this option
As he lives some distance away and is not on the net we have to communicate via the telephone
Can anyone let me know where the help option is on Windows 98 so that I can tell him how to confirm what version he has on his computer?
I am sure it is Windows 98 SE as it has 2 USB ports on it and we recently purchased an external CD RW and that worked Ok via USB
Any advice would be most welcome

Other options:

1. Right click My Computer and select System Information.

If that is not available.

2. Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Information.

Typing winver into my computer just says:

Windows 98.

But in fact my version is windows 98SE.
"98 4.10.2222A with DOS 7.10."

Or as Diodorus Siculus says. Right click on My Computer and select Properties.
