What type of file do i use when burning a DVD.

I have downloaded a couple of DVD's from a legitimate site and i would like to burn them onto a disc so that i may play them on my DVD Player unfortunately i am unsure as to what file type i use in order for this to happen also what type of disc do i use i.e. + or - DVD or one or the other, i have wasted a few discs trying this out or it may be my own DVD Player that is the problem. I would be very much appreciated for help on this matter. Thank you for your help in advance.

DVD's are in Mpeg2 format contained in a VOB file Depending on the format the downloads are you might just be able to use something like dvd flick which is free to convert and burn . to avoid risking making coastersd should you use flick then advise you make an Iso image first .If that then plays ok carry on an burn . If flick wont (unlikely ) accept the files then you need to convert first use something like any video convertor also free
