Go to:

and run the speed test several times to get average figures (Manx.net uses BT for its services).

Hover hover the Network Connection icon on the taskbar (the icon with two monitors blinking). The popup should tell you the connection speed.

The second 'hover' should read 'over' - sorry!

"hover the Network Connection icon on the taskbar (the icon with two monitors blinking). The popup should tell you the connection speed."

Not correct. The pop up only tells you the maximum speed available from your exchange and/or modem, NOT the speed you are achieving.

I never knew that! Thanks Jackcoms, I'll try one of the above links now to test my own connection.

Here's another speed test site click here

Tiscali's Notification area connection icon informs you of the line's potential maximum speed and also the uploads and downloads total to date whilst you are online if you hover the mouse cursor over it.

Wanadoo's does too.

The result, even relayed over the help phone line showed that I am at 490mbps. The Aol agent, becoming quite excited said this shows I am already on 1G!

Filter test shows BT capable of supporting 2.2g on this line!

I've posted a letter to the Vice President Consumer Affairs for Aol at a Bristol box number.
will await a call!
