assuming you are using win xp
click start/control panel system /advanced tab/performance/settings/advanced tab should show your virtual memory at the bottom

doh read the question about 1 and a half times ram so based on your ram around 768 should be ample

i have xp home and 512ram.both min and max are set to 766 and its fine.

set to roughly one and a half to twice menory installed.

wont make much difference really what its set at.

can you set a partition for the swap file to run in?

i belive there is some benefit in doing this, although i choose to leave it all up to windows.

can you set a partition for the swap file to run in? - Yes.

Need a second HDD tho. No point on the same disk.

will explain further if you set a lower limit and exceed it the pc will slow down or stop while it resizes your page file by setting them the same you should avoid this as the chances of getting any where near 768 is quite slim Sorry this should have been part of last post its getting late
