What is Shared Graphics?

I notice many laptops come with shared graphics. Can anyone tell me what this is & its implications. Would shared graphics put any restrictions on gaming?

Essentially it means that the graphics chip that is on the motherboard shares memory with other applications. The graphics chip is allocated a part of the system RAM. It will restrict games performance if insufficient memory is left to the application (game) for it to run entirely in RAM. Also, the onboard graphics chip is unlikely to have the same capabilities as a dedicted card in such areas as anti aliasing, and frame rates etc.
