My kids have an Apricot LS700 with a few modifiactions. RAM is now 256Mb, HDD is now 80gb and it has a CD RW. Processor is still the naff (good in it's day!) 266Mhz and basically i want to upgrade that for them. I have managed to find the following

but as the PC appears to be at the top of its range (then) it does not give me many ideas on which processor to upgrade to.

Am I able to upgrade to a 766 or something to just speed it up a little. Games are not really played just slow system. Although AOE2 and The Sims seem to run ok (ish!)

Pentium II peaked at 450MHz and only a few P2 mobo's would run P3's.

I think it pretty unlikely that your machine can go above 300Mhz and that would give no improvement.

The reality is that the machine is really at its limits.

a new Motherboard maybe then??

The problem with that will be that you will need mobo/cpu/memory/ probably PSU, your case may not be ATX.

At the end of the day Dell/Mesh etc are supplying good spec new machines for £500 that may be worth considering.

In the words of Captain Darling

"bugger"

Sorry about that outburst. Guess kids will have to wait a while for a newer PC

I'm not touting but I'm upgrading my PC from Athlon XP1700+, Shuttle AK32 MoBo and 512 DDR RAM to Asus 400 MoBo Athlon xp3200+ and 512 ram. I'd be happy to let my "old" stuff go for a reasonable amount. Let me know.

click here Price Including VAT + DEL: £ 338.40 v.basic system no monitor click here click here click here click here

You could spec up a basic machine, move you cd-rw over, use your existing monitor and hd (and anything else thats useful)
