What happens to mail blocked by spam filters?

My brain has seized, I should know the answer.

I am thinking of using a Spam blocker or filter. Probably Mailwasher (unless there are other recommendations) for my Vista OS using Outlook 2003.

The alternative is to simply set Outlook to only add people on my approved address list to the inbox. My ISP in common with many ISPs does not like email being left on their server for obvious reasons.

So the question is, what happens to blocked spam is it left on the server or does it die under either of the two solutions I have explained?

Mailwasher deletes spam off the server.

You can set either Outlook or Mailwasher to delete the messages from the server, when they are being processed. You certainly can using Outlook Express.
