What file, or application is this?

  pcbobby 11:16 30 Dec 05

I have acquired an old Compaq DeskPro PC for my daughter. OS 98SE.

When I begin to boot up the system, I am confronted by the following message.

‘Cannot find the device file to run windows application.

The windows registry, or SYSTEM.INI file refers to this file, no longer exists.

If you still want to use this application associated with the device file. Try reinstalling the application to replace the missing file.

(The PC then proceeds to load normally)

I have no idea to what application this file refers.
Any help would be much-appreciated thank you.

A quick way to fix this problem: Go into control panel, double click on network. Click on Add, double click on protocol, left click on microsoft, and a list should appear at the right hand side of the screen. scroll down until you see NetBEUI. Double click on this file, then click on Add. Click on OK and it will ask you to restart your computer. Do so and the problem is gone.
