WHAT DO I NEED TO CONNECT MY LAPTOP TO BROADBAND ?

Hello
I am about to purchase a laptop in addition to my desk top computer.
I have broadband but I would wish to be able to go on line with my laptop without having to change over the broadband modem.
What bits and pieces do I need?
The Dell laptop spec quotes that there is a wireless connection built in.
I am new to lap tops and need a little guidance.
Thank you for your comments in advance, all will be carefully read
Cheers

we've just done it. had to buy a router which came with a disc. just put the disc in the follow the instructions.

would have been easy if our ethernet connection had been working, it has been disabled cause we were using a usb to connect to the internet.

once the router was set up the laptop found the connection

This is really a Networking issue, because what you want to achieve requires either a router or a modem/router, which is dependent on whether you are a cable or ADSL user. Which you haven't stated.

I have looked at Networking forum and I agree I should have raised the matter there I did not understand the terminology, sorry.

Yes, that's right; you're an ADSL customer. A modem/router it is, then. I will only recommend to you those models that I have either used myself or installed for other folk, and brands that are top-draw network specialists of long standing; click here (my own and one that I have often sourced for other people. Very good if set up properly) click here or click here if you need it with a PC card. click here (includes a free USB adapter. Not normally my choice of receiver, but this one is better than most.)

Thank you very much ade.h The info is most helpful and I now have sufficient to go on with.
I dare say that I will need further guidance but I will raise further queries in the networking forum.
Again many thanks
