If you want to capture details of small objects then you should go for a single lens reflex type digital camera (SLR).

What you see in the viewfinder is what you get on the shot, but unfortunately they are more expensive than a compact camera type.

The quality of the detail depends on megapixels - the higher the MP level the greater the detail, although this obviously leads to much larger files.

More information is required on what you are intending to photograph to give a more definite answer.
