can someone please tell me what these 2 items are.
1/1394 net adapter on ohci compliant device.
they have popped up on pc
no.1 appears to be a lan connection
no 2 obviously something to do with it
i dont have networking
how do i get rid of them
plain english please for pc thiko

Controller etc for firewire (IEEE 1394).

Do not remove, even if you don't have any firewire devices. They could be part of the motherboard setup.

what software do I need to open / view what is hidden behind the little red cross in a square usually located in a corner of email attachments or similar please - I run win98se - pictures ? - can anyone help ?

This is probably your Ethernet LAN adaptor. Either you have this facility on your motherboard or have a PCI adapter card.

If you have a home network and/or a modem/router or such device connected then the '1394' connection will be shown.

If no such devices or connections are in use then the facility is still enabled on your machine.
