I have read through various accounts of using hijack this. So far I have not needed it nor have any of the friends I have acquired as word has spread that I fiddle with problem pcs. It would be useful to have an understanding of the log and what is dodgy etc. One of our cleverer members could perhaps put up an idiots guide or something. What do others feel about it.

It's not that easy really, there are so many nasties. The people at the site below know how to read the logs and you can join a training school there. click here

Totally agree Howard,i know a little about using hijack this but not enough to use completely on other pc's(like friends) etc.An idiots guide sounds good to me ha ha.....Bet uv started something now :-)

Hijack this is a tool best left out of the hands of idiots!

It's a powerful utility with which you could easily remove vital files from your pc.

Using it is a topic far better dealt with on the specialist malware removal sites.

If the guide on Merijn's site click here is too complicated then you are probably better off staying away from hijack this.

HJT logs posted on the MalwareRemoval forum will get expert help.

If you are really interested in learning then you can at the MalwareRemoval University click here
I must warn you though, it's not easy. There is more to cleaning an infected computer than running hijackthis and fixing a few things!

Thanks for all the suggestions - I have looked at them and this looks like an interesting project for me when I get out of hospital after an operation next week. With luck I will learn a few things I dislike not knowing something that is going on. As an ex senior lecturer in electrical engineering I think I should be able to understand this after a while. I will tick it as resolved and thanks again.
