On first starting my desktop running XP home , the start-up screen , from "Windows is starting up" breaks up into 4 or 5 blocks across the screen. That is , when the desktop appears , the icons are spread across the screen in a zig zag fashion, with the Start button on the right. This will usually clear if I do a re-start.
Is this something to do with the screen drivers , if so where do I go to reinstall them?
The screen is a 17" Colortac

Start -control panel- system - hardware- device manager.

try uninstalling and reinstalling or updating the graphics driver

"...where do I go to reinstall them?"

That depends entirely on the graphics chip manufacturer.

What graphics do you have?

Is it on the motherboard or a separate card?

Or alternatively the graphics hardware may be faulty - sometimes the fan (if fitted) can fail, and the chip overheats.
