Weird slowdown on startup

Hi there,

Merry Christmas and Happy new year to you all.

Just got a wee bizzarre problem...recently windows on startup coming from either Hibernation or a fresh boot takes almost a minute to show the start bar.

The desktop appears (no shortcuts - just the picture) but if the antivirus is updating that pops up and updates without problems.

It's not a major problem but it's still very irritating as it never used to do this before...when it does appear it's not slow at all.

The PC : 3.4Ghz P4, 1GB RAM, Windows XP fully updated.

Any thoughts?

Cheers,

G

Hi, I wouldn't worry about it unless you have other problems ... one minute to start bar is not too excessive.

Happy New Year.

It sounds like your computer is busy loading programs or carrying out some other background task at boot-up. Is your antivirus Norton? That is notorious for slowing things down, but very effective once it has got started.
