Webcam sound problem

Can anyone help. I have just connected an Advent ADE-1300K Webcam to my PC via USB 2 connection. It has a built in microphone. The video works fine on MSN messenger but there is no sound. I have tried the webcam on my laptop and there is no problem with the sound - so some sort of conflict on the PC? I have tried microphone test via Control Panel --> Sounds and Audio Devices --> Voice and set the webcam as the default device for Voice recording and Sound Recording. The test states that voice could not be detected. Can't find anything on Google for probs with this device and the installation guide and manual on disc are no help.
Running XP Home with on board sound on an NVIDIA nForce2 motherboard.
Would be grateful for any ideas/suggestions.

Hi, I would advise you to try a normal microphone, ignore the built-in one, though you can still use the same cam.
