I have just bought a webcam with microhone. Can anyone tell me please how to ensure that it is set up correctly in windows xp and also how to test and adjust the volume settings.

Virtually all webcam and VoIP programs have test facilities built-in to them.

For instance, with MS Messenger, go to Tools - Audio & Video Setup.

Thanks for the prompt replies to my problem. I have a Creative Live Effects Webcam with an earpiece microphone. I have been into Messenger audio and video setup, but in the microphone set up where you have to speak it says that when reading the message the bar should go into the yellow section, otherwise inrease the volume control. I have increased the volume control slider to the maximum, but the bar only goes up to about one third of the green sector when speaking very loudly. The only way to get the bar into the yellow sector is to remove the earpiece and shout into it. Is there anything else I can do to increase the volume of the microphone.
