Webcam help required

I have an Intel CS110 webcam and due to several attempted breakins I have tried to rig it up as a security camera, however as my PC is not within 2 inches of a view point I purchased a 5 metre USB active extension cable.

My problem is that when connected to the extension cable my PC no longer acknowledgs that I have a webcam.

Other USB devices I have tried work (to ensure the cable was not crook!)

it sounds as if your web cam uses a little more juice than the other devices , it may mean that you need a powered usb hub ??

Why does your PC have to be within two inches of a viewpoint?

There is a limit to how long a USB cable(s) can be before becoming ineffective (can't remember the exact figure).

If, as I think, you mean the webcam is not close enough to capture the required area, then why not just move the PC the necessary two or three inches?
