web counters

Can anyone tell where I can get a "free web counter" without all the ads that normally attached themselves to them.
I want something simple that I can place on my simple web site.JUst to let me know how many have accessed the web site.
I use dreamweaver but I'm only just getting to know how to use it.
Nothing too difficult please.

It's great and you have the option of it being invisible - never have a visible counter on your site

are virtually useless. They count the number of times someone clicks on the page, and a single visitor can clock up lots of hits, simply by going back and forth on your site.

The important statistic, as far as most sites are concerned, is the number of what are called 'unique visitors' - each one representing a different person arriving at the site. Most good web hosts will provide you with access to server statistics; these analyse your site's traffic in many ways - they even tell you which browser a person was using.

Agree with Forum Editor,
Don't use a website counter. Really tacky and don't give you any useful information.
Sign up for an account with Google Analytics.
It's free and gives you some great statistics about your site's visitors.
