My daughter has recently got a Microsoft Webcam, she's had it three days. This evening she noticed that when pointed at a dark object lots of tiny blue dots appear on the image a bit like stars on a clear evening. She says she has not messed with any settings. anyone got any ideas? She's got XP home edition and plenty of memory and processing power.

Tiny lens, tiny sensor = necessity for good lighting conditions.

I've just replaced a D-Link NetEasy 350 Pro webcam, which had breathed its last with a new webcam.

The D-Link, despite its low cost (about £17.50) had a proper CCD sensor and provided pretty good pictures even in poorish light.

The new webcam offers a blank screen unless the room light is turned on in other than daylight.
