Web browser taken over by adverts

I am being overwhelmed by adverts. When I visit a website, for example if I choose an item on the BBC website then a page opens with an advert. Even if I close the page, the page that I am on has random pairs of words coloured in green and double underlined that lead to another advert.

I think I can track this behaviour back to when I received an untitled email containing a link which I opened out of interest. This was an advert.

Can anyone advise?

Sounds as if you have malware or a virus. Download and run the free version of malwarebytes and run a virus scan.

Also, if you can, do a system restore to before the event.
