Watford Electronics & Formatting Problem

I recently purchased a ?500 PC from Watford Electronics for my son's birthday. When I started it up XP loaded but there were error messages and I agreed to a system recovery. There were numerous "problems in the extracting process" and so I decided to format the drive and do a clean install. Once the format started a message came up: Trying to recover allocation unit and after 24 hours it was nowhere near finished. I have formatted and reinstalled in the past with no problem, so, does anyone have any idea what the problem is and will Watford Electronics ever answer my emails?

Thank you!
