"waste ink tank nearly full"- Canon printer

The power lamp on my Canon BJC 3000 has started flashing 8 orange flashes - the user guide says this means the waste ink tank is nearly full & I should "contact a Canon service facility to have the waste ink tank replaced". Anyone with any experience of DIY for this, please?

Just resetting the "error" code is fine BUT sooner or later you will have take the ink pad(s) out, wash them out, dry them, then replace them. If you dont the ink will some time later spill out into the bottom of the printer. It is a DIY job, but taking the printer part is not that easy. David
