Warning - intrusive software for copying from iPhone

My grand daughter has a fairly large number of tunes on her iPhone 4s. unfortunately her laptop had a virus problem and she lost most of her iTunes music. iTunes music bought from them could be recovered as I have back ups and icloud could provide many more. but ripped music was lost on the pc but remained only on the iPhone. She was loathe to synch the I phone as she thought that the non iTunes music would be lost. I tried to download from the iphone and decided to try 2 special programmes. Fortunately I did a "create restore point" first, as one programme - Sharepod - was full of obtrusive attempts to hijack toolbars etc - fortunately stopped by my WinPatrol. I abandoned this programme , did a system restore and used another, successful - programme (free) itools programme. Those with iPhones, pods, pads etc may have an input.
