Hello all,

Following a crash I am no longer able to enable Aero. W7 is displaying the Windows Basic theme. I have tried using Control Panel > Personalise but the Aero Themes do not turn Aero on, and the taskbar properties > Aero peek is greyed out. I have run the Aero trouble shooter but this reported that no problems were found. The default operating system is reported as Windows 7 Pro 64bit (Recovered).

I have looked for an answer via t'interweb, but apart from trying the above, the offered solutions involve hacking the registry. I am dubious about the integrity of such solutions.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Have a look here, especially method one. Also check check colour depth is 32 bit not 16 bit. Not available on 8 but should be under 'display' I think.

Also if the suggestions don't work try running sfc /scannow a few times.
