I have just turned on my pc and get an error that windows cannot start, possibly due to recent software change or external drive problems.
I did have a couple of issues with usb digital camera yesterday but was still working when shut down.
I`ve used windows startup repair but has not cured the problem. Is there a safe mode access in W7??
Can I make a repair from the W7 installation disk without losing all data and saved programs.

Safe mode can be reached by tapping F8 or F5 if an Asus board.
You can also use your Windows 7 disc to do a repair install, but I dfound that it caused more problems than it cured.
If you really need to repair Windows 7 then backing up your personal files and stuff then a reinstall is probably the way to go.

As I can`t get into windows I am unable to back up files unless I remove the hard drive and hook up to a USB device and transfer to laptop.
I understand that you can do a reinstall and windows puts save original file as .old
Is this a viable method and what files would be recoverable.

A bit of reading here click here
You will need to install your programs again but this will help click here
but I still think it would be safer to remove hardrive and backup your files to the laptop.
Have you tried to get into safe mode and access system restore from there?

Thanks for info,
not possible to get into windows at all not even safe mode, just black screen of death.
I`ll go down the laptop and reinstall route I think.
I may be wrong back I think this stems from a piece of LG software that states W7 compatible but dosen`t say not for 64 bit version.
PC locked up and I had to force a shutdown.
