W32.Pinfi virus attack

  slimbo51 14:31 07 Mar 03

Have just been infected by above virus.

Norton Anti Virus has Quantined the 121 infected files but canot repair them.

Does anyone know anything about this virus,in terms of being able to completly get rid of it.

Have done a reinstall of op/sys (XP Pro) but this has not cleared it.

My drive is split into C and D partions with op/sys on C.

I did not reformat the D drive as all my user files are on it. Would it be reasonable to assume the virus is on my D partion as a reinstall on C did not erase it.

Many thanks for any help or idears.

Did you reformat the C drive or just load XP over itself? If the latter, did you disable System Restore to purge those files?

I reformated th C drive completly with:

Format c: /u

The U I understand means unconditional and removes all files from the drive.

I don't use Norton, but it's bound to give you some indication as to where the files are, slimbo51. Follow mikef™'s advice first, though.

Thanks Mikef.

Went to site and removed reg entry as sugested.

Tried repair files in norton but says it canot.

Should have at least stopped any further infection.

Many thanks for all help.
