W2k - explorer failing to complete

  Paroxetine 11:31 09 Aug 03

Hi all,

I have a problem with Windows 2000 loading up windows explorer.

I log into the PC, the sound plays as normal when the windows enivronment is reached and the cursor shows pointer and timer combo. Just as its about to display the icons, the cursor changes to a timer only with no movement but the PC has not 'hung'. I then have to go to task manager to stop the windows explorer process from running and then restart the process in order to get my icons back. The task bar also fails to load at the above point too.

Any reason for this happening at all?

Thanks for any input.

Check in device manager to see if there are any conflicts with any hardware.

Have you installed any new software recently that may be causing this problem?

Check your anti-virus program for viruses.

reinstalled the OS, no conflicts, viruses or software was causing the problem. Only thing that was installed was theme park world but that was unrelated since it was removed prior to the failure and the pc booted several times no hassle.

thanks anyway all.
