W2K error when trying to install new software

When trying to install new software with W2K operating software, I get the following pop up dialogue box ..

16 Bit Windows Subsystem
SYSTEM\CURRENT CONTROLSET\CONTROL\VIRTUAL DEVICEDRIVERS.VDD
Virtual Device Driver format in the registry is invalid. Choose close to terminate the application.

Then another box windows shows
Close Ignore.

I have been ignoring and the software that I am trying to load continues on with the setup/loading.

What do I need to do to stop this Pop out window from appearing time and time again.

Thanks
