VPN works only using IP address

Hi,

For some reason I can no longer access our server (fileserver) files remotely using a non-domain connected machine over VPN. If I open up explorer and enter \\fileserver it returns a message saying that I don’t have permission to access it (without even asking for logon credentials). However, if I put in the local IP address of \\10.35.1.11 then I get prompted for my logon details, which I then enter and connect as normal to all the shared folders, etc (which is fine). However, if I use remote desktop to connect to the server, I can do so using the name (fileserver). Sounds as though this is something to do with DNS, but I haven’t altered any settings with that.

It used to work, so something's changed since...

Any suggestions? Cheers!
