Volume muted - minor problem

Minor prob:

I've somehow managed to turn the sound off on my computer (Dell/WindowsXP/SP2/AOL 9.0). Rather than my making matters worse, is there a safe way to de-mute it? When I click on the "speaker" icon in the bottom right tray, I get the volume control panel, and I don't want to start messing with settings which I don't understand and thence make matters worse.

Oh, and Happy Christmas/New year etc.

Click on the speaker icon in system tray (bottom right of screen). Uncheck 'mute all'.

Thanks. Found it as you suggested. Sound is back. I know this seems a very silly problem to ask about, but experience has taught me not to go clicking anything, even when it seems the obvious box to click, without checking first.
