I think I have checked all settings and the volumes are all set to high but there is hardly any noise coming from my laptop when I try to play something. Can anone help ?

Laptops are designed for you to be able to hear something and little more.

However, on-board sound is of quite sufficient quality and a pair of ear phones will set you right!

It's very subjective but how much sound? My laptop gives adequate output for listening in a quiet environment. Is their a software/hardware Volume Key in addition to the Windows control? For example my Acer laptop uses ALT + Cursor Up/Down to vary the volume. I set Windows controls to 'high' and then use the software to vary. On an older Toshiba laptop I have a small knurled button on one side that does the same.

A set of external, plug-in speakers would solve your problem. Not too expensive and far better quality than the tinny little internal speakers fitted to most laptops.
