VMWare & Virtual PC's?

I've got an old PC (Dell P4) running XP Home on one partition and Vista Ultimate on another. I've never used virtual PC's but d/l'ed Microsoft Virtual PC & installed it on the Vista & it seems to be working; at the moment it's too complicated for me to get started but I will persist.

I read several comments that VMWare was more user-friendly so I've d/l'ed that (VMWare Server 1.0.4.56) - an achievement in itself on dial-up narrowband! Apparently it's incompatible with Vista and needs XP SP1. On my XP OS it is calling for IIS so I d/l'ed & installed that (IIS-6, v. 7.4.262.0). However, VMWare - at the installation stage - is still saying that it can't find IIS or that it needs to be configured. Maybe I've d/l'ed the wrong software? Any advice on VMWare will be welcomed.

Many Thanks.
