Not my laptop but trying to help a nephew.

Vista Home Premium wont boot up fully, (hangs up) but will start in safe modes. Trying windows update but it wont start (is that because in safe mode?).

Tried installing ADAWARE but got the message visual C++ Runtime 9.0 SP1 could not be installed)- use update ti install it (but I cant)

any tips please?

Try a system restore in safe mode to a time when it was running Ok.

done that, no joy, main problem is the whole system freezes within minutes of getting up and running, even ctrl alt del doesnt work

toshiba celeron dual core with 2Gb ram, I dont think its up to the job, been like this since new and comet insist its standard and ok.

we had to restore it to factory setting using the install files on the HDD when it was new but I cant remember how to access it (tried F2, F8, F12)
