Vista hangs at black screen with working cursor

  tonyjon 12:24 10 May 08

An installation of Vista Ultimate 64 bit on a second drive will boot up past the green flashing line tup to a black screen with a cursor (moves with mouse). Have left it at that state for up to an hour but nothing further happens.

Chkdsk'd disk, shows no problems, start up repair from DVD boot shows no problems.

Second 'clean' installation on seperate HDD works ok, but cannot access other drive (locked due to improper shut down)

Any help appreciated but at least I transferred all my data files before this happened
