vista data transfer speed

hi all

is there anyway i can speed up the data transfer from external harddrive to laptop?

at the moment its 1.02mbs

my laptop is

1.6ghz
2gb memory

There is no way to speed up the data transfer from external hard drive to laptop. your system is working fine according to your system configuration.

There is a program called Teracopy which is supposed to help with Vista's slow file copy/deleting performance.

By the way, do you mean 1.02 Megabits/sec (Mbs) or 1.02 MegaBytes/sec (MBs)?

You could also google for "Remote Differential Compression" which I have seen being blamed for slowing things down.

Taken from another forum:

"With Vista I got a marked speed improvement in
file operations by disabling Remote Differential Compression. Control Panel/Programs and Features/ Turn Windows features on or off/Uncheck Remote
Differential Compression. I have found no negatives to disabling RDC. Hope this helps".

disabling RDC and downloading terecopy has help they both flux between 15-23 MBs
