Vista clean install from D Drive

  Maiden. 00:07 28 Oct 07

I bought a Compaq desktop PC around a year ago, and I want to perform a clean install of Vista - the reg, C Drive etc are very cluttered !

Problem is, I did not get a Vista back up CD with my PC, but I do have a D Drive that is labelled Recovery - so I think everything may be on there ?

I'm a bit confused - can anyone tell me what I need to do to get my PC back to ow it was when new please.

Many thanks

When you start the machine, do you see any messages before the Windows logo - press Fxx or Del for Setup, Fxx for Recovery - or somesuch?

Hi brundle

Yes, I see 'F10 - Setup' and 'F11 System Recovery' - is it one of these I need to go to ?

Thanks for your help

F11 for system recovery.

You should have 2 options.

a non destructive install that will just re-install windows and leave your files in tact.

a full format install that will format the drive and take it back to the day you bought it.
