"Vista basic Home edition" To XP home Edition

My Grandson has recently purchased an ASPIRE SA90: With Basic Vista Home on Board preinstalled software. Although it had a Pentium 3000 processor to say it drags it feet was an underestimate.

We decided to install windows XP Home addition with the latest patch Etc. there was a fast improvement immediately: unfortunately the on board Codec will not pick up sound at all? Also the on board Ethernet card will not pick up a driver also.

Looking inside the case there appears to be two PCI slots! So I would be able to fit a sound card and PCI Ethernet card as a last option?

But surly there must be a solution to energising them with having to purchase further software.

Assuming this is an Acer Aspire SA90, I'd go to the Acer Site and download and install the XP drivers for these devices
