Visio 2003 dimensions problem

Does anyone here use Visio Professional?

I have just started to use this software and have a problem that is driving me insane!

I want to draw building layouts but I absolutely do NOT want any dimensions to appear. Time after time, when I click and drag a wall/ building outline/door etc. onto the page, it goes on fine, then when I next click it, a dimension number in grey appears next to it.

I have tried right clicking and changed every parameter I can think of; I have moved an example to a temporary template so that I can then edit it as a “master shape”, but this doesn’t work.

I have resorted to making text 100% transparent, but when I take the drawing and insert it into Word, for example, the invisible text can sometimes re-appear.

Now, for some unknown reason, once, I have managed to do a complete set of drawings without the stupid dimensions appearing. I now want to do some more so I have clicked “insert new sheet” and off I went again. On this new sheet, the dimensions appear again!!!

I’ve made sure that when I created the new sheet that all the building shapes were turned off. The first objects I clicked on to it were just standard boxes (to make sure that some hidden building template wasn’t selected). No luck, as soon as I place a wall (etc.) up pop the dimensions. And, when I go back to the first sheet (with my correctly formatted drawings on), adding a wall will make dimensions appear there as well; i.e. adding a new sheet screws up the original sheet.

Help please!!!
